This week's insight
Worth a look: Coding agents in sandboxes
Two groups of tools around single AI coding agents are cooling over the last 4 weeks: AI coding agent tooling (-36%) and codebase analysis for AI-written code (-36%). Multi-agent coding workspaces held steady and had 32 newly shared projects this week. Inside that group, several run agents like Claude Code and Codex inside isolated sandboxes or VMs, with gates before work counts as done.
- SideKernel: runs coding agents inside a microVM sandbox on macOS
- Outpost: code-defined agent workflows in sandboxes, with test steps, approval gates and budgets
- CodeyBox: orchestrates several agents in sandboxed VMs with automated quality gates
- truth-firewall: blocks an agent from declaring a task done until its work passes verification
Worth investigating: Is the sandbox the product, or a feature the agent tools will absorb? Compare what each isolates (files, network, accounts) and what has to pass before the agent's work is accepted.

The heatmap
Each square is one theme in one week, coloured by whether it took a bigger or smaller share than usual.
We count the projects builders share on Reddit each week. A project is counted once, in the week it first appears in our sources — that’s not necessarily when it was built or launched. Because some weeks are busier than others, we compare each topic's share of all projects, not raw counts, so a busy week doesn't make everything look like it's growing. “Up 70%” means a topic is taking up 70% more of the conversation than before. In the Oct 5 – 11 edition, the last 4 weeks are Sep 14 – Oct 11, compared with the previous 8 weeks, Jul 20 – Sep 13; the last 12 weeks are Jul 20 – Oct 11.
Faded rows have fewer than 600 projects in the last 12 weeks, so their trends are less reliable; themes under 50 are left off. See every theme this week →
